Overall meaning : Many a prophet, Allah Almighty states, fought with many of his devoted followers alongside them and, despite what they had to suffer in Allah’s cause, they did not renounce their faith or abandon fighting for His cause. They were never daunted by whatever befell them on the path of Allah, nor did they lose heart, nor weakened, nor humiliated themselves before their enemies. Allah Almighty loves those who display great patience like these and their likes.
All they said after what had befallen them was, ‘Lord, forgive us our sins and the transgressions we have committed in all our affairs, make our steps firm and give us victory over our and Your enemy from among the unbelievers.’ Therefore, Allah gave them the reward of this life—victory and the possessions left behind by the enemy—and the best reward of the life to come, namely gaining Allah’s good pleasure and being admitted into His gardens for all eternity. Allah loves those who do good.
