Overall meaning : Allah warns the believers against obeying a group from among the People of the Book who are rather keen to lead them back to unbelief, stating that if they obey them and accept what they call them to and reject faith, they will thereby help them fulfil their evil purposes. But how could they leave this religion when the Qur’an is being recited to them and help them remain firm in faith, and the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, is in their midst, explaining it to them? The Almighty also stresses that those who adhere to His religion have indeed trodden a clear, straight path that will eventually lead them to the gardens of eternal bliss with Him.
