Overall meaning : Allah, Glorified and Exalted be He, tells us about the Jews, who have been given them a portion of the Book and a share of knowledge. When they are called to the book that is with them—which they believe to be the Word of Allah, believe its wisdom and in which they find reassurance—to judge between them, some of them turn away from it in their obstinacy and pay no heed, simply because they claim that they will not be tormented in the Fire except for a few days and then Allah will bring them out of it! It is such blatant and sheer falsehoods which they have forged that have deluded them in the matter in their religion, blinded their hearts and turned them away from the path of truth.
Then God Almighty sternly warns them of the Day of Gathering: How will it for them on that day, about the coming of which there is no doubt, when Allah gathers together all mankind, from the beginning to the end of the world, and repays them in full according to the evil deeds they have committed—on that day, when everyone will receive what he has earned by his words and deeds. Your Lord’s justice is absolute and He does not wrong anyone!
