Overall meaning : Allah, Glorified and Exalted be He, affirms that every person will eventually die, and that everyone will be fully repaid for whatever good or evil they have done only on the Day of Judgement. Whoever is, on that day, spared the Fire and admitted into Paradise will have certainly succeeded, and the life of this world is nothing but a fleeting, illusory enjoyment.
Allah then informs the believers that they will be tested in their possessions and their persons and that they will hear many abusive words from their enemies from among the People of the Book and the idolaters who ascribe partners to Allah. He assures them, though, that if they steadfastly persevere, patiently endure their harm and fear Him, this would indeed be a meritorious matter that requires great resolution to achieve.
