Overall meaning : The Almighty says: Korah (Qarun) was one of Moses’s people, an Israelite, but he behaved arrogantly towards his people and despised his people because of his wealth. We had given him such treasures that their very keys were too heavy a burden for a band of strong men. His people said to him, ‘Do not gloat over your riches, nor be so proud of them as to forget to give thanks to Allah for them, for Allah does not like people who gloat and behave arrogantly. But seek, by means of what Allah has given you, the reward of the hereafter by giving to charity and spending your wealth on good causes, without forgetting to enjoy the lawful enjoyments of this world. Worship Allah well and also be good to others as Allah has been good to you. Do not seek to spread corruption in the land through sins and arrogance, for Allah does not love the evildoers who spread corruption.’
He said, ‘I have been given these treasures because I deserve them!’ I deserve it! Did he not know that Allah had destroyed the arrogant of many nations before him, who were mightier than him and had greater wealth?! The wicked wrongdoers will not be questioned about their sins, for Allah will punish them for such heinous sins as He has full knowledge of them.
