Overall meaning : The Almighty says: When Moses had fulfilled his term of tending sheep and was journeying with his family to Egypt, he perceived a fire on the side of the mountain. He said to his family, ‘Stay here, for I can see a fire. Hopefully I will bring you back some information about where we are and the way we should take, or a burning brand from the fire with which you may warm yourselves against the cold.’
But when Moses reached it, Allah called out to him from the bush in the sacred ground to the right side of the valley to Moses, ‘Moses,’ He said, ‘This is Allah, the Lord of all the worlds, talking to you. Cast down your staff.’ Moses threw his staff down, and when he saw it moving fast as if it were a serpent, he was in such extreme fear that he turned and fled without a backward glance. Allah Almighty said to him, ‘Moses, approach and have no fear; you will be safe. Now put your hand into the top opening of your garment, then take it out. It will come out shining white without blemish or disease; and place your hand on your chest to still your fear. These are two proofs from your Lord for Pharaoh and his chiefs and nobles. Surely, they are an unbelieving and defiantly disobedient people.’
‘Lord,’ Moses said, ‘I have killed one of them and I fear that they will kill me. My brother, Aaron, is more eloquent than me; so appoint him a messenger and send him along with me to Pharaoh to help me convey Your message and confirm my words, for I fear they will reject me and call me a liar.’ Allah said to him, ‘We will strengthen you by sending your brother with you, and We will give you both cogent proof against Pharaoh and his people, as well as power and authority so that they will not be able to harm you. You, and those who follow you, shall surely triumph and prevail over them.’
