Overall meaning : The Almighty says: Say, Muhammad, to your idolatrous people, ‘Tell me, if Allah should enshroud you in perpetual night without giving you a day, what god besides Allah would bring you a day in which you can see and earn a living? Will you not listen to these proofs so that you may reflect and realise that no one besides Allah can do so?!’ Say to them, ‘Tell me, if Allah should give you perpetual day without giving night, what god besides Allah would bring you a night in which to rest? Do you not see that with your very eyes and thus realise that Allah alone is deserving of worship?!’
It is out of His mercy that He has made for you, people, the night and the day continuously alternating with each other for your own benefit. He has made the night dark so that you may rest in it and has made the day bright so that you may earn your living and give thanks to Him for bestowing such favours upon you.
Mention to the people, Muhammad, the Day of Resurrection when Allah will call the idolaters who worship false deities besides Him, saying, ‘Where are the gods that you alleged to be My partners in the worldly life and you worshipped besides Me?’ We will bring forth from every nation their Prophet to bear witness that he had conveyed the message to them, and We will say to every nation that denied their prophet, ‘Produce your evidence to support your claim that I have partners.’ They will then know for sure that Allah alone is worthy of worship and that what His messengers had brought them was the truth; and whatever false gods they fabricated and worshipped besides Allah in the worldly life will fail them in the hereafter and will not benefit them in any way!
