Overall meaning : Allah, Exalted be He, says: When Moses brought Pharaoh and his people miracles and clear proofs, they arrogantly said, ‘This is nothing but forged sorcery. Neither have we heard of anything like this among our forefathers!’ Moses replied, ‘My Lord knows best who has brought the truth and right guidance from Him and whose end will be best in this life and in the life to come, we or you. The wrongdoers will never succeed.’
Pharaoh said to his chiefs and nobles, ‘Council, I know of no god for you other than myself! Kindle for me, then, Haman, a fire to bake bricks of clay, and then build me a lofty tower, so that I may perhaps climb up to see the God of Moses. I do not believe his claim and I am convinced he is a liar!’ Pharaoh and his forces behaved arrogantly in the land without any right, thinking they would never be returned to Us to repay them according to their deeds. So We seized him and his troops, and We flung them into the sea and drowned them all.
See, then, the terrible fate of the wrongdoers! We made them leaders calling people to do acts that lead to the Fire, and on the Day of Resurrection they will receive no help at all. We followed their worldly punishment with humiliation and Our excluding them from Our grace, and on the Day of Resurrection they will be among the despised due to their evil deeds and hideous faces, and they will be kept away from Our mercy.
