Overall meaning : Allah Almighty mentions some of the misconceptions and specious arguments which the idolaters have put forward about the Qur’an, saying: The unbelievers say: This Qur’an is nothing but a lie which Muhammad has fabricated with the help of another people other than his own! By making such false claim, these have committed a great injustice and perpetrated a falsehood.
Then He mentions another erroneous misconception of theirs, saying: They also say, ‘This Qur’an is nothing but fables of the ancients which Muhammad has copied down for himself, and which are read out to him morning and evening to learn them by heart!’
Allah instructs His Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, to respond to them and refute such a claim: Say, Muhammad, to these unbelievers: ‘This Qur’an has been sent down by Allah who knows the hidden secrets in the heavens and the earth. Surely He is All-Forgiving, All-Merciful.’
