Overall meaning : Mankind, here is an example for you to listen to and ponder carefully. The idols and false gods you worship and invoke besides Allah cannot create a single fly, even if they were to join all their forces for this purpose; and if a fly snatches anything away from them, such as a tiny bit of food or perfume, they will not be able to retrieve it. Powerless indeed is the seeker—those worshipped besides Allah that cannot recover whatever a fly despoils them of—and powerless is the sought—which is the fly. Weak are both the worshipper and the worshipped! How can such idols, then, be taken as gods when they are so helpless and can be so disgraced?!
These idolaters do not show Allah the reverence due to Him by their associating partners with Him. Allah is the All-Strong, the All-Mighty.
Allah chooses messengers from among the angels to send to His prophets, and He chooses messengers from among mankind to convey His messages to people. Allah is All-Hearing: He hears everything, including what people say in response to the call of His messengers; All-Seeing: He sees everything, including those He chooses to convey His messages. He knows whatever there was even before He created the angels and people and what will happen after they die, as well as what they have done in the past and they will do in the future; and to Him alone will all affairs be referred for decision.
