Overall meaning : Allah Almighty protects the believers from the unbelievers’ aggression and the evildoers’ ill designs, for He does not love the treacherous and the thankless who betray their trust and deny His favours.
Allah has granted Muslims permission to fight because of the injustice and aggression committed against them. Surely Allah has power to grant them victory and humiliate their enemy. They are those who have been expelled from their homes by the unbelievers, merely for accepting Islam and saying, ‘Our lord is Allah.’ Had it not been for jihad (fighting for Allah’s sake), which Allah has prescribed to repel the violence of idolaters and unbelievers by the might of those who fight it, utter devastation would have occurred and places of worship would have been destroyed—monks’ monasteries, Christian churches, Jewish synagogues and mosques in which Muslims pray and mention Allah’s name much.
Allah will grant victory to those who fight for His cause to make His religion reign supreme. Allah is All-Strong, All-Mighty.
They are those who, if We give them power and authority and make them prevail over their enemies, duly perform the prescribed prayers, pay zakat to those entitled to it and enjoin what iss right and forbid what was wrong. With Allah rests the final outcome of all matters.
