Overall meaning : We have appointed for you the bulky sacrificial camels, as well as cattle, among the apparent rites of religion, which you can sacrifice in obedience to Allah. There is much good in them for you—you who sacrifice them—in this worldly life as well as reward in the hereafter; therefore, pronounce Allah’s name over them as they stand ready for slaughter with one of their front legs tied up; and when they have fallen lifeless on their sides to the ground, eat of their flesh and feed the needy—both those who ask and those who are too shy to ask. Thus have We subjected them to your service, so that you may give thanks to Us.
Neither their flesh nor their blood reaches Allah; it is your piety—making your purpose clear and your sacrifice purely for His sake—that reaches Him. Thus has He subjected them to your service, so that you may glorify Allah and give thanks to Him for guiding you to the truth. Give good news, Muhammad, of all good in this life and the next to the righteous who worship Allah alone and do good to others.
