Overall meaning : Do you not see and frankly admit that Allah sends down rain from the sky, and the earth becomes green with the plants that grow on it? Allah is All-Gracious: part of His graciousness is that He makes plants grow with such rain water; All-Aware: part of this is that the grain buried underground is not hidden from Him and He drives water to it by His might to make it germinate.
Every single thing in the heavens and the earth belongs to Allah: He is the sole Creator and Sovereign, and all His creation submits to His will and is dependent on His support and munificence. Allah is Self-sufficient, worthy of all praise under all circumstances.
Do you not see that Allah has made subservient to you all that is on earth (such as animals, trees and rivers, and has made it easy for you to benefit from them) and the ships which sail through the sea by His command, carrying you along with your loads to whatever land you wish? Do you not see that He holds the sky from falling down upon the earth, thus causing everyone and everything on it to perish, except by His permission? Surely Allah is All-Gracious and All-Merciful to mankind.
It is He who has brought you all into being, then He will cause you to die at the end of the terms He has appointed to you on earth and then He will bring you back to life to repay you according to your deeds. Man does indeed deny the signs and indicators that clearly bear witness to Allah’s oneness and power and shows ingratitude to Him despite all the favours He has bestowed upon him!
We prescribed for every past community a law and a set of rites and rituals which they observed. Therefore, follow the law and way of life—both you, Muhammad, and your followers—and do not pay attention to those who dispute with you concerning it. Call people to worship and obey your Lord. You are indeed on the right way.
If the unbelievers amongst your people, Muhammad, insist on arguing with you by using fallacious arguments regarding the truth to which you are calling them, do not argue with them, but say, ‘Allah is fully aware of your unbelief and everything you do.’ They only do so out of sheer stubbornness and arrogance. Allah will judge between you all on the Day of Resurrection regarding your differences in matters of religion.
