Overall meaning : Allah Almighty says: The story of Joseph and other incidents which We have revealed to you, Muhammad, were accounts beyond your knowledge. We reveal them to you so they may help make your heart firm and strengthen your faith, and so that you may patiently endure the afflictions that befall you. You were not with Joseph’s brothers when they resolved on throwing him down the well and contrived a plot against him.
However eager you may be to guide people to the truth, most people will not believe in Allah and what you have brought them from Him. You do not ask them for any reward whatsoever for guiding them to the right path and conveying the message you have been assigned to impart to them. This Qur’an, with which you have been sent, is only a reminder to all mankind. Many are the signs in the heavens and the earth that attest to the fact that Allah alone is deserving of worship, yet people pass them by and neither reflect on them nor pay heed to them. Most of them do not believe in Allah without also associating others with Him in worship.
Do they feel secure that an overwhelming punishment from Allah will not come upon them unawares for associating partners with Him, or that the Day of Judgement will not take them by surprise when they least expect it?
