Overall meaning : Allah Almighty says: When Joseph’s brothers took him with them, and having already resolved to throw him down to the bottom of the well, they mercilessly carried out their evil plan. We then revealed to him, saying, 'A time will come when you will inform them of this deed of theirs and they will not know you.’
At nightfall they returned to their father, weeping. 'Father,’ they said, feigning grief and sorrow, 'we were racing with one another, and left Joseph behind with our provisions and clothes, and a wolf devoured him. We know that you will not believe us even though we are telling the truth.’ They brought his shirt, stained with false blood, which they claimed was Joseph’s blood in order to make him believe their false story. He said, 'What you say is by no means true. Rather, your evil-commanding souls have tempted you to do something evil to Joseph and do him some sort of harm; they made such an evil deed seem fair to you, and you carried it out. Sweet patience! I will patiently bear this without complaining to anyone, and Allah’s help is ever there to seek against the lies that you describe.
