Overall meaning : Almighty Allah states that when the king understood the real meaning of his dream, he said to his aides, 'Take this man who interprets dreams out of prison and bring him before me.’ But when the king’s messenger came to him, Joseph said, 'Go back to your master the king, and ask him first to find out the truth about those women who cut their hands so that the truth becomes known to all and my innocence is established. My Lord has full knowledge of their guile and what they have done, for nothing whatsoever is hidden from Him.’
Thereupon the king sent for the women who had cut their hands; and when they came, he asked, 'What was it that you hoped to achieve when you tried to seduce Joseph the day you attended the banquet? Did you find him morally dubious in any way?’ The women replied, 'God forbid! We did not perceive the least disgraceful thing on his part!’ 'The truth has now come to light!’ the Chief Minister’s wife then admitted. 'It was I who sought to seduce him, but he firmly refused and he has told the truth. I have declared Joseph’s innocence and admitted my guilt so that Joseph may know that I have not lied about him behind his back, for Allah never guides the treacherous and the unfaithful, nor does He let their schemes succeed. I do not seek to absolve myself of blame and guilt, for indeed man’s inner self often incites him to commit sins, except those upon whom my Lord bestows His grace and protects against sin. My Lord is All-Forgiving—He forgives the sins of those who turn to Him; Most Merciful towards them.’
