Overall meaning : Allah Almighty says: When they determined to go down to Egypt, their father said to them, 'My sons, do not enter Egypt through one gate, but enter it through different gates. Despite my advice to you and this precaution of mine, I cannot avail you anything against Allah’s will. Judgement is Allah’s alone. In Him alone have I placed my trust, and in Him alone should the believers put their trust.’
Then when they entered Egypt through different gates, as their father had instructed them, this would have proved of no avail whatsoever to them against anything Allah had willed; it was but a need and a desire in Jacob’s heart, which he thus satisfied by giving them such advice out of loving care. Jacob was truly endowed with vast knowledge of his religion which Allah had taught him, but most people do not know it.
