Overall meaning : And remember, Muhammad, Our servant Job when he cried out to his Lord, saying, ‘Lord, Satan has afflicted me with weariness and pain.’
We, therefore, answered his prayer: ‘Strike the ground with your foot,’ We said to him. He did, and a fountain sprung up at his feet. We said, ‘Here is cool water for you to wash with and to drink from.’ He did, and We relieved his affliction; and We restored his family to him and doubled their number as an act of grace from Us, and as a reminder to those who are endowed with insight.
In order for him to fulfil his oath of giving one hundred stripes to whomever he had taken an oath to beat, We said to him after he had recovered, ‘Take in your hand a small bundle containing one hundred blades of grass and strike with that only once, and thus you will not break your oath.’ We found him steadfast and patient in adversity. What an excellent servant he was! He constantly turned to Us.
