Overall meaning : The Almighty says: Recite, Muhammad, what has been revealed to you of this Qur’an and put into practice its teachings, and attend regularly to your prayer, for prayer restrains those who perform it from indecency and wrongdoing, but remembrance of Allah in prayer is greater still. Allah knows what you all do.
If you, Muslims, argue with the Jews and Christians, then do so only in the best manner—with kindness and gentleness—except in the case of the stubborn aggressors among them; and say to them, ‘We believe in the Qur’an that Allah has revealed to us and in the uncorrupted Torah and the Gospel that Allah revealed to you. Our God and your God is one and the same, namely Allah, and we fully submit ourselves to Him by obeying and worshipping Him alone.’
Just as We sent down books to the previous messengers, so, too, We have sent down to you, Muhammad, a book—the Qur’an. The sagacious scholars among the Jews and Christians believe in the Qur’an, and so do some of those in your midst, from among the Quraysh Arabs and others; but only the obstinate unbelievers knowingly reject Our manifest proofs.
