Overall meaning : Allah Almighty instructs His Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, to tell people about those whose deeds will be in vain on Judgement Day and who will not benefit from them: Say to them, ‘Shall I inform you of those who have lost their labour most? They are those whose deeds in the worldly life have been wasted while they suppose that they are doing good, not knowing that it will all be in vain. It is they who have chosen to disbelieve in their Lord and reject the proofs and signs attesting to His oneness and power and deny that they will ever meet Him. Their good deeds will come to nothing because of their unbelief, and We will not give their deeds any weight on Judgement Day. These will be destined for Hellfire as punishment for disbelieving in Allah and ridiculing His signs and messengers.
