Overall meaning : The Almighty says: Are the idolaters who worship false deities besides Allah only waiting for the coming of the angels to take away their souls while in a state of unbelief or for Allah’s command for their resurrection on Judgement Day? The unbelievers before them also persisted in their unbelief and so they were destroyed. Allah never wronged them, but it was they who wronged themselves. They became justly deserving of Allah’s punishment, and so they suffered the evil consequences of their unbelief and sins, and they were encompassed by the punishment they used to deride, and of which their messengers warned them.
