Overall meaning : Allah Almighty cautions His believing servants against taking the unbelievers as supporters, intimate friends and confidants in preference to the believers, and warns them saying that if they do, they actually offer Him a manifest proof against themselves and thus become deserving of His punishment.
The hypocrites, He states, will be in the lowest depths of Hell and informs His Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, that he will not find any one to help them and save them from His punishment, making an exception for those of them who repent of their hypocrisy, mend their ways inwardly and outwardly, adhere firmly to Him and hold fast to His religion and are sincere in their devotion to Him. These, He asserts, will be counted among the believers, and upon the believers He will certainly bestow an immense reward.
The Almighty then declares that He will by no means punish them if they render thanks to Him and believe in Him, and that He is All-Thankful, All-Knowing.
