Overall meaning : Allah Almighty states that if He had ordained that those who falsely claim they believe the Qur’an and the other divinely revealed books and seek judgement in their disputes in other than what Allah has revealed should kill one another and leave their homes, only a few of them would have done so; and that if they had done what they are commanded and avoided what they are forbidden, this would surely have been better for them and would have strengthened their faith and made them stand firmer. Besides, Allah Almighty would have given them of His grace—as He has promised—a great reward and would have guided them to the straight path.
The Almighty further declares that those who obey Him and His Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, will be in Paradise with those whom Allah has blessed by guiding them to the straight path: the prophets, the truthful who wholeheartedly love and support the truth, the martyrs who are killed in His cause and the righteous. What excellent companions these will be in the gardens of eternal bliss! Such is Allah’s bounty, and sufficient it is that Allah knows all.
