Overall meaning : Say, Muhammad, ‘I have been commanded to worship Allah, dedicating my worship entirely to Him. I have thus been commanded to be the first of Muslims.’ Say, ‘I fear, were I to disobey my Lord, the torment of a Terrible Day.’ Say, ‘Allah alone do I worship, sincerely obeying Him, and I do not associate anyone or anything with Him; worship, therefore, whatever you idolaters wish besides Him. You will soon see the dire consequences of your false worship!’
Say to them, ‘The real losers are those who will lose themselves and their families on the Day of Resurrection by being deprived of Paradise and cast into Hell. That will surely be the manifest, ultimate loss. They will have layers of fire above and beneath them to burn them. With such torment does Allah warn His servants so that they may turn away from sins. Fear Me, then, My servants, by observing what I command and shunning what I forbid.
