Overall meaning : Do you not see, Muhammad, how Allah sends down rain from the heavens and makes it penetrate the earth to emerge as flowing springs? Then He brings forth with it plants of diverse colours, which later wither away and you can see them grow yellow after all their greenness and tenderness; then He makes them dry up and crumble away. Surely in this there is a reminder and an admonition for those endowed with insight and good sense.
Can those whose hearts Allah has opened to Islam and thus receive guidance from their Lord be the same as those whose hearts are hardened and stubborn?! Woe betide those whose hearts are hardened at the mention of Allah, whose remembrance naturally tends to soften hearts! They are in manifest error
Allah has sent down the Qur’an, which is the Best Discourse, a book which is fully consistent with regard to its eloquence, syntactic structure, style and its meanings and provisions; repeating its stories, examples, teachings, promises and warnings in manifold forms. The skins of those who fear their Lord shudder when they hear its warnings, and then their skins and hearts soften when they read or listen to its promises of reward. Such is Allah’s guidance by which He guides whomever He wills of His servants, but those He leaves to stray will have no one to guide them.
