Overall meaning : Allah Almighty addresses His Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, saying: Prophet, Allah is enough for you and for the faithful who follow you.
Prophet, exhort and strongly urge the believers to fight their enemies, to show great patience, to be steadfast and to persevere in their fight against them. If there are twenty steadfast men among them, they will vanquish two hundred; and if there are a hundred, they will overcome a thousand unbelievers, for they are not aware of Allah’s great reward and what He has in store for those who fight for His cause.
Allah Almighty then declares his abrogation the ruling in this verse to lighten the believers’ task, saying: Allah has now lightened your burden, for He already knows that the strength of some among you will not enable them to overcome ten unbelievers, and so He commands each one of you to remain steadfast and stand firm when confronting two enemy fighters instead of ten, with the glad tidings that if there are a hundred of you who are steadfast, they will overcome two hundred; and if there are a thousand of you, they will defeat two thousand with Allah’s help, for Allah is truly with those who are steadfast and patiently persevere.
