Overall meaning : Whatever you have been given is only the fleeting enjoyment of this life, but the reward which is with Allah in the hereafter if far better and more enduring than all life’s pleasures, for those who believe and put their trust in their Lord, who shun major sins and gross indecencies and, when angered, are willing to forgive; who respond to their Lord and obey His commands, duly attend to their prayers, and conduct their affairs by mutual consultation; who spend on others out of what Allah has provided for them and, when oppressed, defend themselves by redressing the injustice done to them.
Let an evil act be repaid with an act of similar nature. But whoever forgives his offender and seeks reconcilement will find his reward with Allah. Allah certainly does not love the wrongdoers. However, no blame attaches to those who seek to defend themselves and redress the wrongs done to them, without transgressing their limits. Blame attaches only to those who oppress other people, behave themselves arrogantly and transgress their limits in the land against all right. These will suffer an agonizing punishment.
Those who patiently endure people’s harm and forgive them for whatever they have done to them will have a great reward and an excellent outcome, for such patience and forgiveness are praiseworthy deeds which testify to strong resolve and which Allah commands His servants to do.
