Overall meaning : Among the signs bearing witness to Allah’s greatness and power is the creation of the heavens and the earth and all the living creatures He has spread in them; and He is able to gather them together before Him for judgement whenever He pleases.
Whatever misfortune befalls you, people, is the outcome of the evil deeds that you commit, and yet He overlooks and pardons many of your sins. You cannot escape Allah anywhere on earth, nor do you have any protector or helper besides Allah.
And among the signs testifying to His perfect power are the ships, as tall as the mountains, smooth-running through the ocean. If He wills, He can calm the wind so that they lie motionless on its surface. Surely in this there are signs of Allah’s power for all who are patient in adversity and deeply grateful to Him. Or, if He so wills, He can cause the ships to sink as punishment for the misdeeds of those boarding it, and yet He forgives much and thus does not punish people for every sin they commit. He punishes the wrongdoers by drowning them so that those who dispute His signs know that they cannot escape His punishment.
