Overall meaning : Make mention, Muhammad, of the day when Allah will gather all His enemies who disbelieve in Him from all generations. They will then be violently driven to the Fire in utter disgrace. When they reach it, their ears, their eyes and their very skins will bear witness against them, speaking of the evil deeds they used to commit in the worldly life!
They will disapprovingly ask their skins, ‘Why have you borne witness against us?’ Their skins will reply, ‘Allah, who gives speech to all things, has made us speak by His power. It was He who created you in the first instance, and to Him you were bound to be brought back after your death! You did not hide, when committing sins in the life of the world, for fear that your ears, your eyes and your skins would bear witness against you on the Day of Resurrection, but you thought that Allah was ignorant of many things that you did! It was such very evil thought which you entertained about your Lord that brought you to ruin, and so now you find yourselves among the losers.’
Whether or not these unbelievers bear their torment in Hell, the Fire will be their everlasting abode; and if they ask Allah to be pleased with them and accept their repentance and excuses, He will never be pleased with them, nor will He ever accept their repentance and excuses!
