Overall meaning : Abraham said after Allah Almighty saved him from his enemies’ evil plot, ‘I am leaving this land to the land my Lord has commanded me to migrate to; He will surely guide me to the path of truth and righteousness.’ ‘Lord,’ he prayed, ‘grant me a righteous son,’ We gave him the good news that he would have a forbearing son—Ishmael. When the boy reached the age when he could work with him, his father said to him, ‘My son, I saw in a dream that I must sacrifice you. What do you think about this?’
‘Do as you are commanded, father,’ Ishmael replied. ‘Allah willing, you will find me steadfast.’ When they had surrendered themselves to the will of Allah, and Abraham laid him down on his forehead to sacrifice him, We called out to him, saying, ‘Abraham, you have fulfilled what you were commanded to do in your dream.’ Thus do We reward those who do good by delivering them from distress.
That was indeed a most severe test. We ransomed his son with a mighty sacrifice—a huge ram to be slaughtered in his stead, and We bestowed on Abraham the praise of later generations: ‘Allah’s peace be upon Abraham.’ Thus do We reward those who do good.
Abraham was truly one of Our believing servants. We later gave him the good news of the birth of his son Isaac—a prophet among the righteous. We blessed him and Isaac. Among their descendants were some who did good by showing obedience to Allah and some who clearly wronged themselves through their unbelief and disobedience.
