Overall meaning : These idolaters will suffer such a terrible evil fate because when they were told by way of advice to say, ‘There is no god but Allah,’ they would turn away in arrogance, and would say, ‘Are we to renounce our gods for the sake of a mad poet?!’
By no means is the truth what they claim it to be! Surely Muhammad has brought them the Qur’an, which is the truth from his Lord, and he confirmed the earlier messengers who had also brought the truth.
You, idolaters, will all taste the painful torment, and you will only be repaid for what you have done. As for Allah’s servants whom He has chosen and purified to obey Him, they will have a well-known provision: fruits of every type, and they will be honoured in the Gardens of Delight, seated face to face on couches.
Goblets will be passed round among them with a drink from flowing springs of wine in Paradise, white and delicious to those who drink it. Unlike wine of this life, it will cause them neither harm or giddiness, nor will it dull their senses and make them intoxicated.
They will also have with them maidens with beautiful wide eyes, who refrain from looking at other than their husbands due to their extreme love for them, with such pure skin and body as though they were well-protected ostrich eggs that are untouched by human hands.
