Overall meaning : Allah Almighty informs us of the wisdom He had granted His righteous servant Luqman: We bestowed wisdom and religious knowledge on Luqman, saying, ‘Give thanks to Allah for His bounties. Whoever shows gratefulness to Allah does so only for his own good, but whoever shows ingratitude to Allah and denies His favours should know that Allah does not stand in need of him, He is ever praised anyway, and He appreciates those who are grateful to Him.’
The Almighty then tells us part of the advice and guidance Luqman gave his son, which testifies to this wisdom: Luqman said to his son by way of advice and instruction, ‘My son, worship no other deity besides Allah, for ascribing partners to Allah is a great sin.’
