Overall meaning : Allah Almighty says, depicting the condition of those who turn away from the Qur’an and preoccupy themselves with other than this divine book: There are some people who would pay for frivolous pursuits and distracting, idle talk to lead people away from the path of Allah without knowledge and make a mockery of the path of Allah. These will suffer a humiliating punishment. And when the verses of the Qur’an are recited to them, they spurn them and disdainfully turn away, as though they had not heard them, as though there were a deafness in their ears. To these give news of a painful punishment
By way of contrast, the Almighty mentions the good reward to be given to the good reward that He has in store for the true believers: Those who believe and do righteous deeds will have gardens of bliss in the hereafter, in which they will abide for ever. Allah has made them this promise, which He will certainly fulfil. He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.
