Overall meaning : Messengers, eat of the good and pure things that I have made lawful for you, and do good deeds. I have full knowledge of all your actions; nothing whatsoever is hidden from Me. Your religion is one and the same religion, namely Islam, and I am your Lord; therefore, fear Me by observing what I command and eschewing what I forbid.
Yet people from among the messengers’ communities divided themselves, with regard to their religion, into different sects, each following a book and religion and rejoicing in its own doctrines, thinking that it is the only one following the truth to the exclusion of all else! Leave them, then, Muhammad, in their heedlessness and confusion until they are overtaken by punishment or death.
Do these people who have split up their religion think that by all the wealth and children We provide for them We hasten to honour them with all types of good that they rightly deserve?! By no means! We only do so to test them and lead them step by step to their ruin, but they are not aware of this.
