Overall meaning : God Almighty tells about another scene of that wonderful story, namely, when Mary conceived Jesus, peace be upon him, and when she felt the throes of childbirth: So she conceived him, and retired with him in her womb to a far-off place. The pains of labour drove her to the trunk of a date palm. She said, ‘Oh, if only I had died before this day and had been something forgotten and had sunk into oblivion.’ Then her newborn son, Jesus, reassuringly called out to her from below her when she delivered him, ‘Do not grieve! Your Lord has placed a small stream at your feet. Shake the trunk of the palm towards you: It will drop fresh, ripe dates down to you. Therefore, eat of the fresh dates, drink from the stream and be happy; and should you see anyone who wants to ask you about me, say to him, “I have made a vow of silence to the Most Compassionate God and will not speak to anyone today.’”
