Overall meaning : Allah Almighty states that no one violates His limits more brazenly than those who prevent His name from being remembered in His houses (mosques) and strive hard to destroy them in any way or debar the faithful from them. As punishment, they will be deprived from entering them except in fear of being struck by some divine punishment or of being punished by the believers. In addition, they will suffer disgrace in this world, and in the world to come they will receive a terrible punishment.
He then informs us about His mighty kingdom, stating that to Him belongs the dominion of the entire earth with its east and west and what lies between them; therefore, whichever way one turns, there is the Face of Allah. Allah’s mercy, forgiveness, knowledge and munificence are immense indeed, and nothing escapes His knowledge.
Then He mentions the Christians’ erroneous claim that Christ is the son of Allah Almighty! No, indeed! High above is He above the falsehoods they utter! To Him belongs all that is in the heavens and the earth, and all His creation is in total submission and subjugation to Him. How can He, then, possibly have a son from them!? Glorified is He, and High Exalted is He above all that!
He then informs us that He is the sole Creator and Originator of the heavens and the earth. Thus the One who is capable of creating them out of nothing, immeasurably great as they are, is undoubtedly capable of creating anything that is not as great. How can they, then, consider Jesus beyond His immense power and creativity and regard him a part of Him?! High Exalted is He above all that!
One of His attributes, Glorified and Exalted be He, is that when He wills a thing, He only says to it, ‘Be,’ and it is. Therefore, If He can decree matters by simply commanding them to be brought into existence—that is, by a word—He by no means needs to generate things from Him. How can they, then, consider Jesus His son?! Jesus, peace be upon him, was no more than one of His creatures, which He created with the word, ‘Be.’
Allah Almighty then informs us that the illiterate Arabs who ascribed partners to Him and who did not have the knowledge the People of the Book had, asked, ‘Why does Allah not speak to us or give us a miraculous sign?’ so that they would believe Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. The same demand was made by the previous nations of the Jews and Christians. That is because the unbelievers’ hearts are all alike when it comes to their stubborn rejection of the truth. Such demand, He states, is inadmissible as He has clearly shown the signs proving the sincerity and truthfulness of His messengers, including Prophet Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, but only people who have firm faith will benefit from these signs.
Then, addressing His Prophet Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, Allah Almighty tells Him that He has sent him with the truth to give the obedient good news of success and bliss in this world and in the world to come and to warn the disobedient of misery and suffering in both worlds, reassuring him that he will not be blamed or taken to task regarding those who freely choose to remain unbelievers after having conveyed the truth to them.
