Overall meaning : Allah, Exalted be He, says, pointing out the dire consequences of those who forsake His remembrance and disobey Him: Whoever turns away from My Book, does not ponder over it nor follow it will lead a miserable life in this world and after death, and We will raise him up blind on the Day of Resurrection.
‘My Lord,’ he will ask, ‘why have you raised me up blind although I used to see in the life of the world?’ Allah will reply: ‘The verses of My Book came to you and you turned away from them and did not believe in them; just as you forsook them in the worldly life, so on this day will you be yourself forsaken in the Fire.’
This is how We repay those who transgress beyond bounds, disobey their Lord and do not believe in His revelations and clear proofs. But the torment prepared for them in the life to come is even more painful and more lasting.
