Overall meaning : Allah Almighty says: Just as We have related to you, Muhammad, the story of Moses and Pharaoh and their people, so We recount to you the history of past communities; and We have given you from Our presence a reminder—this great Qur’an.
Then, pointing out the terrible fate of those who turn away from this Qur’an, He states: Those who turn away from it, neither believing it nor following its guidance, will come before their Lord on Judgement Day bearing the heavy burden of sin, as a result of which they will remain in Hell for all eternity. What an evil load they will bear on the Day of Resurrection!
He then depicts the condition of the wicked on that day, saying: This will take place on the day when the angel blows the Trumpet by Allah’s command and all the dead will be resurrected. and We will gather the unbelievers together on that day blue with terror, whispering to one another, ‘You stayed in the world only for ten days.’
We know very well what they will say secretly when those with a better judgement realise that the life of the world was even much shorter and will say, ‘You stayed there no more than a day!’
