Overall meaning : We have enjoined man to show kindness to his parents. His mother bears him with reluctance and gives him birth with reluctance due to the hardships, pains and troubles she suffers during her pregnancy and delivery. The carrying of the child to his weaning is a period of thirty months. At length, when he reaches his full physical and mental maturity and attains the age of forty, he prays, ‘Inspire me, Lord, to give thanks for the favours You have bestowed on me and on my parents, and to do good deeds that You will accept from me. Make my offspring righteous and guide them to true faith and good deeds. I have turned to You, and I have totally submitted to Your will.’
It is from such people that Allah will accept the good deeds that they have done, and whose evil deeds He will overlook. They will be among the dwellers of Paradise, in fulfilment of the true promise that He has given them: He never breaks His promise.
