Overall meaning : Allah, Exalted be He, says: If only you could see the evildoers who deny the resurrection when they hang their heads in shame before their Lord! ‘Lord,’ they will regretfully say, ‘we have now seen and heard the truth that we used to deny. Send us back to the worldly life and we will do good deeds. We now believe the truth and we are firm believers.’
Had We so willed, We could have guided everyone to the truth in the life of the world, but My Judgement will now be fulfilled: ‘I will surely fill Hell with all unbelievers from among the jinn and humans.’ They will then be told, by way of reproof, ‘Taste the torment for disbelieving in the Day of Resurrection and for deliberately forgetting you would ever meet this day. We, too, will forget you and leave you in such punishment. Taste the eternal torment for your unbelief and evil deeds in the worldly life.’
