Overall meaning : Allah, Exalted and Sublime be He, affirms that this Qur’an is from Him and refutes the idolaters’ unfounded claims: It is not the devils who have brought this Qur’an down on Muhammad, for it neither suits their ends nor is it in their power to do so because they are debarred from even hearing it in the heavens.
Then, He sternly warns against associating false gods with Him: Therefore, call on no other god besides Allah, lest you become one of those doomed to punishment.
After that He directs His Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, to preach Islam openly and to rely on Him: Warn first your near relatives amongst your people of Allah’s punishment if they do not believe, and show kindness to the believers who follow you. If your near relatives disobey you, say to them, ‘I am not responsible for your idolatrous practices and the sins that you commit.’ Put your trust in the Almighty who cannot be overcome, the Merciful who never hastens His punishment, who sees you when you rise to pray, and sees your movements—standing, bowing and prostrating—among the worshippers; for He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.
