Overall meaning : On the Day of Resurrection, woe betide every taunting slanderer and backbiter, who amasses a great deal of wealth and greedily counts it again and again, thinking that his wealth will make him live in this life for ever! By no means is what such a person thinks true! I swear that he will, on Resurrection Day, be flung into the Fire that breaks and crushes everything that is cast into it!
And what will make you realise what the Crushing Fire is, Muhammad?! It is the kindled Fire of Allah that burns fiercely with people and stones as its fuel, and is so intense that it reaches right into the unbelievers’ hearts, penetrating deep into them. That fire will be closed and sealed over them with extended columns in it, so that they will never be able to leave it.
