Overall meaning : But you, people, do not do remember Allah and pray to Him because you prefer the pleasures of this present life to the reward of the next, whereas Allah’s reward in the life to come is far better and longer lasting than the transient pleasures of the worldly life. All this (that is, the meaning contained in the verses: Successful indeed will be those who purify themselves from unbelief and sin and remember the name of their Lord and pray to Him. But you, people, do not do remember Allah and pray to Him because you prefer the pleasures of this present life to the reward of the next, whereas Allah’s reward in the life to come is far better and longer lasting than the transient pleasures of the worldly life) was indeed mentioned in the earlier scriptures—the scriptures of Abraham and Moses.
