Overall meaning : Perish man! How stubbornly he denies Allah who has created him!
From what has Allah created man? He has created him from a mere drop of sperm. He determines his development in stages while he is in his mother’s womb; then He facilitates his exit from his mother’s womb. Afterwards, He takes away his soul and causes him to die when he reaches the end of the earthly term He has appointed for him, and assigns a grave to him in which he is buried by way of honouring him. Then, when it is His will, He will surely bring him back to life to repay him for his deeds.
By no means has man fully fulfilled all Allah’s commands! Let man consider the food he eats and reflect on the manner and ways and means We have provided before it reaches him: We send down abundant rainwater from the clouds; afterwards, We cleave the earth, allowing plants to sprout from the clefts in it, and We cause all types of grains to spring forth in it, as well as grapes and fresh vegetation, olive trees, date palms, enclosed gardens that are dense with lofty trees, all types of fruits and grass—as a provision for you, mankind, and for your animals to enjoy in this worldly life.
