Overall meaning : Therefore, be steadfast, Muhammad, in carrying out your Lord’s command to convey His message and patiently endure the harm your people do you. Do not be—in your anger and impatience with your people—like Yunus (Jonah)—who was swallowed by the whale—when he called out to his Lord, in utter distress, ‘There is no god but You! Limitless are You in Your glory! I have done wrong.’
Had his Lord not shown him His grace and mercy, he would have been cast off onto a barren wilderness while he was still blameworthy for what he had done. His Lord, however, chose him and made him one of His righteous servants.
The unbelievers would almost strike you down, Muhammad, with their evil, malicious looks, out of enmity, anger and envy, when they hear you recite the Qur’an; and they say, ‘Muhammad is certainly a madman.’
Yet this Qur’an is nothing but a reminder and an admonition to all mankind and the jinn!
